Grab your hankies, daytime TV lovers. The end is fast approaching for all your soap friends in Pine Valley and Llanview.
"All My Children," starring beloved soap queen Susan Lucci, and "One Life to Live" both were handed cancellation notices Thursday by ABC.
"We are taking this bold step to expand our business because viewers are looking for different types of programming these days," Disney ABC/Television Group Daytime President Brian Frons said in a statement.
"All My Children," which focuses on the trials and tribulations of characters in the fictional Northeastern town of Pine Valley, will close up shop in September. "One Life to Live," set in nearby Llanview, Pa., will air its final episode in January.
ABC said shows called "The Chew" and "The Revolution" will replace the two soaps.

I've easily spent more than 200 hours aboard Greyhound buses. The bulk of these trips have been spent shuttling between New York City and Boston, but I've also taken buses to Washington, Philly and Maine, and on one terrible overnight trip, I even went all the way from Boston to Indiana. No, we think they lost, because they never quite understood that when it comes to camping, the gear sells itself. Who wants to be out in the wild without the proper equipment? It's camping that needed to be sold, because that's the first hurdle - getting people to want to "rough it" in the first place. And then that they should go to Camping World for all their gear. And the women failed on both of those goals.

The cast had its first script read-through at Jackson’s Stone Studios on Thursday, sitting in a semi-circle inside the set of Bilbo Baggins’ house. Ian McKellen has blogged that having Jackson and co-screenwriters Fran Walsh and Philippa Boyens inviting comments on their script so far “is as close to bliss as an actor can get”. New Line and MGM are co-producing these two new Tolkien epics – rumoured to be titled The Hobbit: There and Back Again and The Hobbit: An Unexpected Journey – with Warner Bros financing.
